This stamp is an easy one to get and located at the Far View Visitor Center about 8 miles in from the entrance to the park.

CO-XIV-1 STAMP TEXT:

Now this one borders on the ridiculous to obtain. It is available at the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum located within Mesa Verde National Park. They keep it locked up and you'll have to ask for it at the main desk. When I visited and asked for it, they put me through a bombardment of questions and wanted to make sure I was intending on visiting the site. Since the actual site borders private land, there are a few locals with shotguns keeping visitors at bay. If you're like me and weary of visiting such an area, let them know and say you'll be visiting the Canyon of the Ancients NM to make up for it. That did the trick for me and I obtained the stamp. Since the Canyon of the Ancients NM is a BLM area, there is not an official stamp, so it sort of makes up for it. It is possible to visit the site for Yucca House NM, but you're on your own there. I realize many people like to actually step foot on any area where a stamp is available, so if that's your game, visit the NPS site here. You'll see how difficult, but doable, it is. Good luck and post your adventure for this site at the MSN group.

If you've decided to do the Canyon of the Ancients NM method, a good site to stop at is off Route G west of Cortez on the way to Hovenweep NM or the Utah border. There are a few signs near the area. Here are some of the ruins Holly and I came across at one of the pull-offs:
